Intro to Organic Gardening - Hampden

You'll learn how to grow your own organic garden in this popular one-night program. We'll talk about the basics of soil science, composting, crop rotation, green manures, weed control and natural insect control.

You'll leave with lots of information that you can take with you to use in your own garden.

Intro to Soap Making

Calendar Feb 13, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

In this one-night, hands-on class, you will learn how to make soap from scratch using natural oils and ingredients. We'll discuss materials, safety and different types of soap making. 

Participants will collectively make a master batch of soap and scent to their own liking and take them home with them.

The $19.00 course fee will include the cost of all ingredients and materials.

 

Introduction to Basket Making - Orono

This 3-session class is designed for new basket weavers. You will meet once a month for three months and make a different basket each session. Each class, the basket will get progressively more difficult. Overall, you will learn two types of basket bottoms, several styles of weaving and a variety of rim finishes.

Once you register for the class, you will be provided with a list of supplies and tools to bring to class.

A $12.00 materials fee will be payable directly to the insructor each class ($36.00 total for all 3 sessions).

 

Introduction to Digital Photography

Workflow from Camera to Print, Basic Adobe Photoshop Techniques and Long-Term Digital Image Storage. This course is designed for the beginning digital photographer.

 

Introduction to Fly Fishing

This one-day course is designed to get you solidly grounded in the fundamentals needed to enjoy fly fishing. Topics covered include: tackle selection and assembly, knots, fly casting, fish foods, artificial flies, fly fishing strategies, entomology and wading safety.

This popular class is taught by an experienced Maine guide and the author of the best selling book, A Fisherman's Guide to Maine.

 

Introduction to Latin

In this 6-week introductory level class, you will learn why Latin is not a "dead language". We'll read, speak and listen to Latin while also learning about the Latin culture in a relaxed, enjoyable and supportive setting.

Any student in grades 8-12 attending this course with a parent, may take it free of charge. Other high school students pay only $10 for this course (call us to register at 862-6422).

 

Introduction to Mandarin Chinese

In this 7-week class, you'll be introduced to various aspects of the Chinese language, such as: how to acquire and produce accurate standard Mandarin phonology, fundamental sentence structuire, functional communication, identifying good online language resources and the challenges of learning Chinese from an English speaker perspective.

You'll learn from an instructor who spent nearly 20 years teaching Chinese in various international schools.
